Heliophilia
This series is a personal exploration of sunlight in autumn and winter. Heliophilia combines the Greek for ‘sun’ and ‘love’ and denotes the desire to stay out in the sun. It’s about how I want to soak up the sun in these dark seasons and how important the sun is for us humans and all living creatures.
Dear Sun,
So much of me is you. When you’re out, I feel an immediate urge to reach for you. To touch you the way I touch the earth with my bare feet. Even if you linger only for a second. I appreciate you even more on the dark days of fall and winter, or when you shine in early spring. You keep me awake, sharpen my senses. I long for you, crave you. A taste of your warmth, a taste of your beams. I want to soak you up completely. No one has ever come this close. Only you, Sun. You’re my kind of drug. And so I rise, searching for light. As long as it’s yours, not the ceiling’s. What we share cannot be matched. What would we humans, creatures, all living things be without you?
Love,
Your Heliophile

Are you someone who feels most adventure calls, when new horizons open, and when the warmth of sunlight settles on your skin? If so, you’re in the right place. Within these pages, you’ll be taken on a journey that stretches from the rugged Greek mountain scapes to the towering Canadian Rockies of British Columbia. You’ll wander through the familiar corners of your own hometown, and drift toward places that offer comfort, nostalgia, or a sense of quiet escape. The Escape invites you to step away from the rush of everyday life and sink into landscapes both distant and near. Let these stories and scenes carry you into the mountains, along paths that often go unnoticed. Turn the page, breathe deeply, and allow yourself to be transported.
